but don’t you think we can all be uniquely normal without the constant obsession to be so special?

Hmmmm… Yes and no… From the point of view of one who, for sixty two years, has been eccentric bordering on the psychotic, “normal” means commuting like a zombie, working nine-to-five, having a spouse you’re no longer passionate about but stay with because it’s the right thing to do, 2.5 children, a tract house, a Chevy Nova, you vote Republican because your parents did, you go to the church they went to and say you believe in God but don’t know why, you roll along through life doing what’s expected of you and, when you are finally very old, you can’t think of what your life was about except, of course, for those 2.5 children who will, alas, probably be as normal as you.

I am eccentric, to be sure, but I don’t obsess about it. I don’t think of myself as special, in the way Donald Trump and Jay Leno think of themselves as special, for I know I’m not and, unlike them, I don’t think of myself as the center of the universe. In that sense, I’m normal. My behavior, on the other hand, well…

i get what your saying Jeff, too many corporate zombies out there. i guess i was thinking of it as people trying to be something that’s not true to themselves. i’m sure we all have some eccentric parts of our lives, but that’s our normal, and that’s what we all love about each other. I’ll stop hijacking Barbara’s blog now. Love the doodle’s as always!
